Accessibility statement

Our commitment

Chaim VeShalva counts people with disabilities among the community it serves, and works to make this site usable by as many people as possible, however they choose to browse - with a screen reader, by keyboard alone, at an enlarged zoom, or without a mouse.

Conformance status

This site is built to meet the European standard EN 301 549, which points to the WCAG 2.1 guidelines at level AA.

As of today the site is partially conformant. We are working through an ongoing round of testing and fixes, and we update this statement as that progresses. This document describes the real state of the site, not the intended one.

What has been done

Measures already in place include:

  • Full keyboard navigation, including a "skip to content" link as the first focusable element on every page.
  • Semantic heading structure and page landmarks, for screen readers.
  • Alternative text on images that carry meaning, and decorative images hidden from screen readers.
  • Every form field has a programmatic label, and error messages are tied to the field they belong to and announced.
  • Contrast ratios checked against the site's real colour values rather than by eye.
  • The system-level reduced-motion preference is honoured, so animations and scroll-driven sections stand still.
  • The whole site is bilingual Hebrew and English, including the labels screen readers announce.

Parts that are not yet fully accessible

Some parts of the site are not there yet, and we would rather name them:

  • Attached PDF documents (for example the kosher certificate and the prayer times) were produced by third parties and are not necessarily readable by a screen reader. We are glad to provide their content another way on request.
  • The application form is hosted on an external service (Fillout) and is not under our direct control. If you have difficulty completing it, contact us and we will help you personally.
  • Content added by staff through the admin system is checked by hand, and individual gaps may remain.
